Volunteering
Volunteering at HRPA is a rewarding membership experience and volunteers are critical to the association’s continued success.
With the expertise and involvement of members, we create awareness of workplace issues, promote excellence in human resources management practices and provide services that support the HR community, knowledge-sharing and continuous professional development.

About Leadership
Ann Tavares, CHRL
Chapter Chair
Ann Tavares, CHRL, brings over 25 years experience in Human Resources Management. As Managing Partner of HR Logic, an independent HR consulting company offering services to small to medium-sized organizations across a variety of industry sectors, Ann works closely with senior executives, providing strategic HR management and execution. A member of HRPA since 1991, Ann started volunteering as a student and in the years since has worked at annual conferences, mentored and been an active member on two of the Membership sub-committees. She is a graduate of King’s University College at Western and the post-graduate HRM program of Humber College.

Michael Greenwood, CPA, CA, CFP, TEP
Chapter Past Chair
Michael Greenwood CPA, CA, CFP, TEP brings over 25 years of experience in finance, consulting and business operations. He has specialized in providing insurance and group benefits solutions for the past 15 years. Before launching Pelorus’ benefits practice, he worked for one of Canada’s leading life insurance companies. Prior to entering the insurance industry, Michael worked for a national consulting firm and in the private sector in various financial and senior operational roles. Michael regularly speaks and writes about employee benefits, corporate culture and workplace wellness.
Helen Patterson
Chair, Chapter Mentorship
Helen Patterson is a Workplace Expert with an in-depth knowledge of employer culture, brand and HR strategy. Helen is currently Head Human of Life Works Well, delivering HR with heart. Life Works Well helps organizations put the heart and soul back into people so they can better serve their customers, community and world.
Helen is also the lead author and editor of two HR publications for Thompson Reuters – Employment Policies That Work and Terminations Best Practices, both comprehensive information resources for Canadian HR professionals.
Helen held senior leadership roles in law, HR and business at some of the top brands in Canada, including CIBC, ADP, FootLocker, Champs and The Northern Group. During her years as an employment lawyer and litigation counsel, she gained an understanding of the human rights and employee relations challenges that can be avoided with the right attention to heart-centred cultures. She believes in working on proactive strategy to avoid conflict in the workplace and champions the vision of a healthier workplace where all employees thrive.
At ADP, Helen held many hats including Product Compliance and Marketing Manager and lead content developer for the comprehensive HR services business launched in Canada. She worked closely with the technology teams to drive out-of-the-box thinking from a user perspective.
She is a sought-after speaker, and captivated audiences at DisruptHR, and the CPA and HRPA’s annual conferences. A life-long learner, she holds a Masters of Labour & Employment law from York University, a law degree from Western University and a B.A. in Political Science from York University.
Her vision is a world where everyone has a mentor who will help them grow so they can in turn give back.

Jenn Guglick, CHRL
Chair, Chapter Communications
Jenn brings 10+ years of experience in the Hospitality/Food & Beverage industry, and HR specific background as a Recruiter, Generalist, Business Partner, and Manager. She holds a BA (Hons) from Brock University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resource Management from Humber College.
Jenn has a passion for communication and engagement, and has been an active member of the West Toronto HRPA Chapter since 2013.

Mark Gernon, CHRP, CHRL
Chapter Secretary/Treasurer
Mark has over 20 years of human resources experience with a focus in labour relations in multiple industries and sectors including the public sector, hospitality, transportation and construction.
Mark owns a consultancy practice providing clients with human resources advisory services and representation including collective bargaining, grievance and attendance management, WSIB and disability claim management, and workplace / management training.
Mark volunteers with the West Toronto HRPA committees, and previously volunteered with Toronto Police for 23 years.

Janet LeClair, CHRP, CHRL
Chair, Chapter Regulatory Discussion Groups
With broad expertise in human resources, finance, and communications, Janet has over two decades of experience working both in the private and public sector. Currently as an HR Consultant she enjoys helping start-ups build out their HR infrastructure and position their company for growth. Currently on the Board of JobStart, a non-profit organization that was recently integrated with WoodGreen Community Services, she has served in such roles as Secretary to the Board, and Chair of the Nominating & Governance Committee. She has participated in The Mentoring Partnership (TMP) program, delivered by JobStart, in partnership with The Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC). Previous board experience includes three terms with BioTalent Canada and a year with York Technology Association (YTA). With a certificate in Governance Leadership for Non-profit Boards from Boardmatch-Altruvest, Janet is a graduate of Ryerson University’s Business Administration Program and the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, Advanced Program in Human Resources. As a member of HRPA since 2000, she holds a Certified Human Resource Leader (CHRL) designation.

Ian Turner
Chair, Chapter Student Liaison
Ian currently works as an associate at HRwise, where he is responsible for job evaluation, job profiling and compensation analytics as well as assistance during client interaction and facilitation of client communication. He specializes in Human Resource oriented data analytics, specifically around compensation and job evaluation analysis.

Lovel Dhir
Chair, Chapter Programs
Lovel is a member of the Human Resources Team at Cardinal Health Canada Inc, where she supports their largest Canadian distribution facility. Her main focus is to provide effective coaching and advice to People Leaders, while enhancing the culture and employee engagement that leads to achieve high business results aligned with the company’s core values. She is very passionate about her work and is motivated and driven by the opportunity to add value and make a difference at her organization and through her volunteer position with the HRPAWT.
