Volunteering

Volunteering at HRPA is a rewarding membership experience and volunteers are critical to the association’s continued success.

With the expertise and involvement of members, we create awareness of workplace issues, promote excellence in human resources management practices and provide services that support the HR community, knowledge-sharing and continuous professional development.

HRPA members and students are involved in a variety of volunteer service opportunities including:

The first step to volunteering at HRPA is registering in our volunteer services database. If your registration is accepted, you receive a notification. When an opportunity that matches your preferences and/or skills becomes available, you may be contacted directly with more information about the available volunteer role.

Alison Garbutt

Chapter Chair Elect

Alison started with the HRPA Board in 2016 as Treasurer and made the transition to Programs Director in May 2018.  Alison has been involved with other HRPA committees.

Chapter Past Chair

Sara was programs director for Durham board for 5 years and has been with the Peterborough Chapter since 2015 as Program Director.

Sara became President Elect in 2016 and President in 2018.

Chair, Chapter Communications Committee

Teri Lawrence is a dynamic Human Resources Professional with a focus on payroll & data, and experience in: recruitment, benefits, pensions, learning & development and health & safety, compensation and HR metrics. She is excited to contribute to the HRPA through volunteering for the Peterborough Chapter board.

Chapter Secretary-Treasurer

Julie Yandt is the Director, Talent with The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group and holds the Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation.

Serving on the Board for the Peterborough Chapter from 2016-2018, Julie is very excited to return again as the Treasurer/Secretary. Previous volunteer Board experience includes not-for-profit organizations. Julie also has been a Captain for a community mixed team in the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival since 2012.

Julie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources and Labour Relations , a Certified Talent Management Professional (CTMP) designation, and is certified in Prosci Change Management as a Train-The-Trainer to support her 12+ years of leadership in the field of human resources in various industries covering retail, manufacturing and insurance.

Amanda Payne

Chair, Chapter Programs/Professional Development Committee

Amanda Payne is the Training Lead with The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group. She holds a Diploma in Business Administration – Human Resources Management and is presently completing her Degree through Athabasca University.

Previous experience includes 8 years’ in Employment Services supporting employers and job seekers through recruitment, training and development. Amanda served as the Co-Executive Director with the Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment in 2018 and was a member of the Municipality of Trent Lakes Economic Development Committee between 2017 and 2018.

Amanda is excited to connect with the local community of HR Practitioners through the Peterborough Chapter board.
