Volunteering

Volunteering at HRPA is a rewarding membership experience and volunteers are critical to the association’s continued success.

With the expertise and involvement of members, we create awareness of workplace issues, promote excellence in human resources management practices and provide services that support the HR community, knowledge-sharing and continuous professional development.

HRPA members and students are involved in a variety of volunteer service opportunities including:

About Leadership

Lesley Harrington, CHRL

Chapter Chair

Lesley is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) with over 9 years of progressive Human Resources experience and she is currently working at the Barrie and Community Family Health Team as the HR Manager. Lesley obtained her Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management through Sheridan College in Oakville.

Lesley’s HR experience includes; Recruitment & Selection, Pensions and Benefits, Employee Relations, Onboarding and Orientation, Performance Management, Compensation, Policy Development, HRIS and Health & Safety.

Prior to her HR career, Lesley has extensive management experience in Administration, Customer Service and Operations and has worked in the medical, legal, telecommunications, real estate and private business sectors.

Lesley looks forward to actively participating as a Member of the Barrie & District Chapter Board.

Catherine E Wilson, CHRL

Chair, Chapter Student Liaison

My name is Catherine Wilson and I live in Huntsville, Ontario with my husband and two children.

I was born in Huntsville and have lived here for most of my life. I graduated from Queen’s University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and then attended Georgian College in 2011/2012, where I obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resources Management. I started working at Home Depot as a HR Co-op Student in 2012 and have worked at Home Depot in Human Resources ever since! I am currently a Store Human Resources Manager out of the Huntsville location and have been fortunate enough to work out of different store volumes in my 9 years at Home Depot.

I am thrilled to be in the Student Liaison position for the Barrie Chapter! I remember making beneficial connections with the HRPA when I was a student at Georgian College and I am so pleased to be able to give back to students, promote the HRPA and the HR profession.

Janet Magee, CHRP, CHRL, BHRLR

Chair, Chapter Mentorship

An HR Professional with more than 25 years progressively responsible experience. Experience in all aspects of Human Resources in many different environments including Social Service Agencies, Non Profit organizations, Manufacturing including Automotive, Commodities, and Construction.

7 years volunteer experience with the Guelph Chapter of HRPA along with volunteer expereince with HRPA and several other organizations. Obtained my Bachelor’s in Human Resources and Labour Relations through distance learning with Athabasca University.

Sue
Sue Skawinski, CHRP, CHRL

Chapter Secretary/Treasurer

Sue is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) with over 20 years of progressive Human Resources experience. Sue completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management through Humber College in Toronto.

Sue’s passion is recruiting, however, does possess many years of HR generalist experience including, but not limited to, Talent Acquisition, International HRM, Employee Relations, Compensation & Benefits and HRIS & Payroll.

Sue is currently working as an HR Business Partner with Aurora Cannabis supporting three production facilities. Sue has held various roles within HR such as HR Business Partner, Director, Resourcing, Manager, Recruiting, and Human Resources Manager. For many years she worked and built the company & the HR department at Thales, a large, global hi-tech company.

Sue embraces volunteering and has enjoyed many different volunteer experiences prior to being a member of the Board of Directors of the Barrie & District.

Sheryl Flannagan, CHRL, CMM II HR Professional

Chair, Chapter Communications

Sheryl is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) and Certified Municipal Manager, Level 2 HR Professional with over 15 years of progressive Human Resources experience. She is currently working at the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation as the Director, Corporate Services.

Sheryl obtained her Bachelor of Arts from York University and her Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management through Humber College. Sheryl has both private sector and not-for-profit experience and enjoys all aspects of HR and her HR roles have been more generalist related which suits her. Her current role has a portfolio of more than HR, including IT, Finance, Communications, Administration and more which keeps her busy!

She is happy to be part of the Board team and to be in a position to give back to the community through contributing to the Barrie & District HRPA

Sherry Patterson, B.A., CHRP

Chapter Chair Elect & Chair, Chapter Programs/Professional Development

Sherry earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Laurentian University and obtained her post-graduate certificate in Human Resources Management from Georgian College. She has a Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification and is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).

Sherry has 9 years of progressive Human Resources experience in several industries including transportation and manufacturing. She has an excellent knowledge and understanding in creating policies and procedures, disability management, coaching/counselling, project management and health and safety. Sherry strives to update her knowledge and skills regularly so that she may stay current in all areas of Human Resources.

Sherry has always had a passion for volunteering. She has previously volunteered for Victim Services as a team leader and at the Season Centre for Grieving Children in Barrie.

Sherry looks forward to contributing to HRPA.
