On March 24th and 25th, HRPA hosted our fourth annual Student Case Competition. This year’s competition was held on a virtual platform that was attended by more than 90 students and faculty members. (View the testimonials below).

Day 1 of the event kicked off with a fierce competition between 18 different teams (a record number), representing various universities and colleges across Ontario. Teams worked against the clock to prepare their cases and record their presentations. Judges deliberated and finalists were announced on day 2. Finalists went on to compete for top prizes.

Day 2 also included an inspiring panel discussion with Julie Labrie, president and owner of BlueSky Personnel Solutions, Matt Parkin, founder of MWM consulting, Chris Patinios, talent lead, Magna (COSMA), who dished out practical HR career advice and provided valuable insights into the hiring process. After the panel discussion, we hosted a networking lunch that gave attendees the opportunity to connect with fellow participants, panelists and senior HR leaders.

The event concluded with our awards ceremony, where we announced the 2023 Student Case Competition winners.

1st place: Niagara College (represented by Jessica Chang, Maddie Emery, Julia Krasovec, Camille Houston)

2nd place: Wilfrid Laurier University (represented by Suhavi Garg, Victoria Talvitie, Micayah Coutinho)

3rd place: George Brown College (represented by Christina Theocharidis, Aaron Kuo, Melanie Facchini, Claire Kearns and Melissa Burton)

2023 HRPA Case Competitor

“One beautiful winter afternoon, I received an email about the HRPA Student Case Competition. I immediately told my classmates about it and in no time we formed a group and got a coach to support us. From registration to the pre-engagement meeting and finally the competition itself, it was very well organized. The information that was given was detailed and simple. During the competition, I had the chance to work on one of the most interesting cases I’ve ever encountered. I learned a lot during those 2 hours. I also witnessed the power of determination and team work. Overall, the 2023 HRPA student Case Competition was an experience I will never forget! Well done to the HRPA and organizers!”
