HRPA Edge is a paid internship program offering Certified Human Resources Profession (CHRP) a minimum six month paid HR internship with participating employers.

What is a CHRP?
CHRPs are HRPA members in good standing. They are young professionals who have extensive HR training in addition to their college or university educations and have passed the Comprehensive Knowledge Exam (CKE), a comprehensive test of their HR knowledge.

How does the internship program work?
HRPA Edge is administered by Career Edge Organization—a national, not-for-profit that has partnered with over 1,000 organizations to place close to 13,000 interns since 1996. An employer (host organization) posts an HR internship opportunity through HRPA Edge and eligible HRPA Edge candidates apply to the internship posting through the website. Once an HRPA Edge intern is hired Career Edge Organization manages the payroll administration on behalf of the host organization. Career Edge Organization provides host employers with the resources to find, pre-screen and administer the internship while providing support to both interns and employers in a successful internship experience.

How can HRPA Edge interns help my organization?
HRPA Edge interns put their HR knowledge to work by helping their host employers with many HR challenges including HR policy development, Employment Standards Act compliance, job descriptions, employment contracts, interviewing, recruiting and more. HRPA Edge offers a flexible cost-effective option to HR-based project staffing without impacting on FTE or headcount.

Who is eligible for HRPA Edge paid internship program?
Any CHRP  who has completed their college or university education and passed the Comprehensive Knowledge Exam (CKE) is eligible for the HRPA Edge program.

How do I apply to participate as a host employer?
You can apply by going to Edge for Employers and completing the registration form. Once you have submitted the short registration form with your contact information, a Career Edge Organization Client Relations Managers will contact you to complete the registration process to get you started and respond to any questions you may have related to the internship posting, recruitment process and overall internship administration.

How do I register with HRPA Edge as a prospective intern?
If you are a CHRP who has completed your college or university education, passed the Comprehensive Knowledge Exam (CKE) and Employment Law 1 exam and completed the Job Ready program, you can fill out the registration form on  the Edge For CHRP page.

Do I get paid to do an internship?
Yes. HRPA Edge is a paid internship program. Once hired by a host employer for an internship, you will receive a monthly stipend that is paid to you by Career Edge Organization, who manages the payroll on behalf of the host employer. You will earn a stipend of $14,400 for a six month internship. (Please note: this stipend is non-negotiable.)

Are internships full-time or part-time?
All internships are full-time (35-40 hours a week), for a duration of four, six, nine, or 12 months. The term will be set out in the job posting but it can be extended if requested by the host organization and with the agreement of the intern.

How do I know if I’ve been selected for an interview?
If you have applied to an HRPA Edge internship position through the HRPA Edge or Hire Authority website, the host employer will contact you by phone or email to schedule an interview. CEO does not set up interviews between registrants and host organizations. Please note that obtaining an internship is a competitive process; employers will only contact candidates that are suitable for an interview. 

Can I complete more than one internship?
No, participants are only entitled to obtain an internship through HRPA Edge once in their career. When that internship is completed – at the end of the internship contract, if you choose to leave, or if the internship ends for any other reason – you will be ineligible for other HRPA Edge internship opportunities. We recommend that you choose your internship carefully and make sure the experience is something that you sincerely want to pursue. However, do remember that when you register for HRPA Edge you are also registered as a Career Edge program registrant and are able to review and apply for a Career Edge internship.  After the completion of an HRPA Edge internship, you may be eligible to be considered for the Career Edge program.  Similarly, you may only participate once in the Career Edge program.
