Got a story idea for HR Professional magazine?
Designated HR professionals and actively contribute to the success of their organizations, so why not share that success and inform and instruct others? All columns should offer the HR Professonal reader a concrete idea or process that they can implement either in their workplace or within themselves. Features must be well-researched and well-sourced and examine topical and strategic HR issues.
Content Guidelines
Submitting Queries
Do not send a complete article. Please send your query to the Managing Editor, MaryBeth Mckenzie. The query should include two or three paragraphs that describe:
Theme: Be specific. We will not assign a story on “leadership” but we might use an article on a new form of leadership or a case study on leadership within a certain company.
Evidence: Please provide how you will prove your theme. For example, interviews with experts, a case study, numbers and statistics and quotes from cutting-edge research, books or topical studies.
Section: Identify the magazine section subhead, for example, “Strategy” or “Talent Management.”
Originality
We accept only original submissions. Do not pitch previously published material (Internet distribution included).
Photos
Images sent electronically must be 300 dpi resolution jpeg or tiff files.
Article Length
HR Professional publishes both features and columns. Features are approximately 1,200 to 1,800 words and columns are around 700 words. New products, trends, studies are used for the front of book section and are 250 words.
Final Edit
We reserve the right to edit all articles as needed for content, tone and space, although we do make every effort to ensure contributors are happy with their pieces. Articles must never be promotional in nature. Anything construed as self-promotion will be edited out of the article.
