Welcoming New Faces and Exciting Changes at HRPA

Louise+Gary

It's finally that time of year – summer is here, school is ending soon and vacation plans are beckoning.

At HRPA, summer isn't the only long-anticipated event we've all been waiting for.  This month, we were so pleased to welcome our new CEO, Louise Taylor Green.

Louise joined HRPA on June 4th and kicked off her tenure by calling an all-hands meeting to personally introduce herself to our staff and share her passion for HR.  Before joining, Louise invited all staff to complete a brief survey to gauge what they wanted to know about her background and what they hoped she'd address in her early days at HRPA.  She also included a few fun trivia questions that really broke the ice and allowed us all to get to know her a little better (among other things, we learned that she played competitive soccer for 34 years and is a real foodie).  If you haven't yet had the chance, you can read the Press Release which includes a summary of Louise's impressive background.

It has been such a pleasure to serve as your Interim CEO.  I've had such wonderful support from our Board of Directors and from the staff of HRPA who are so engaged and committed to serving our members and advancing the profession.  I now have the honour of passing both the CEO role and this column to Louise.  I know I speak for all of us at HRPA when I say, we're thrilled to have her at the helm.

Kind regards,

Gary Monk

CEO's Message

New Beginnings

I am so delighted to finally be here at HRPA and to be leading such a wonderful team.  Starting something new always means some kind of personal "change management" will follow. Personally, I've always differentiated change from transition because 'change' is the event that happens whereas 'transition' is something you go through.  On June 4th, my change happened.  I left my former role as SVP & CHRO at Economical Insurance and joined HRPA but my transition is just beginning.  During my transition I'll listen and learn about our history, traditions, opportunities and impact so that we can continue to elevate the profession.

I've been part of the HRPA family in one way or another throughout my career: as a member, as a chapter volunteer, a board and committee volunteer and, of course, as a proud designation holder.  I care deeply about the association and our members not just because of my affiliation but because I've seen firsthand what positive impact professional HR practice can have on an organization and its workforce.

I've often said that working in HR is incredibly dynamic.  You never really know from one day to the next what types of issues you may be faced with.  Just think about the types of issues we deal with in HR – legal, financial, people, projects, technology, resource utilization, compliance, innovation and more.  We have such broad scope within the profession and the complexity of today's workplaces and pace of change is only accelerating, demanding more and more of us.

What we must never forget, in the midst of handling everyday issues, is that people are at the heart of our work.  Our work extends beyond what happens inside the walls of our workplaces because the experiences of our workers affects them at work, at home, and in the community. Professional HR practice truly matters and this association is committed to advancing the profession.  I personally believe that HR is more than a profession - it's a calling and I feel incredibly privileged to serve this organization and our members.

I want to thank you all for your commitment to our profession and for the warm welcome to HRPA.

HRPA Insurance Link Launches July 1

HRPA previously announced in April and May that effective June 30, 2018, our relationship with TD Meloche Monnex will end. We found that only a relatively small cohort of our membership gained significant benefit from this program. We wanted a program where every member could benefit.

That's why it gives us great pleasure to announce our biggest member benefit yet: HRPA Insurance Link.

Beginning July 1, 2018, every HRPA member and student will have access to significant savings on almost any kind of insurance product. Whether you need coverage for yourself, your home, your family or your business, we are now able to connect you with group rates available exclusively to HRPA members and students.

To celebrate the launch of HRPA Insurance Link, you could win your membership fee when you obtain a free quote, or when you sign up for your first policy. Current TD Meloche Monnex policyholders get an extra chance to win their membership fee when they sign up.

After July 1, please visit www.hrpa.ca/insurancelink to learn more.

*Please Note: If you are already a TD Meloche Monnex customer, your current TD policies will remain in effect at current prices until renewal. If your policies are due to renew, after June 30, TD will no longer be able to offer HRPA pricing to you, but they will try to fit you into another affinity group. While you have the option to renew with TD at whatever rate they do offer you, we recommend that you first check out HRPA's Insurance Link to decide what suits you best.
