Welcome to the HRPA Central East Chapter
The Chapter Council act as ambassadors for the HRPA and the human resources (HR) profession, providing professional development opportunities, arranging networking and social events, hosting HR Power Lunch webinars, and facilitating ad-hoc volunteer opportunities. Chapter events provide members with the opportunity to develop skills and proficiencies, obtain CPD hours and build valuable connections with peers.
Chapter Councils also help promote and support HRPA initiatives such as the HRPA Mentorship Programs, HRPA Online Communities, HRPA Student activities and more. Alison Garbutt
Council Past Chair - Peterborough
Alison is an HR Generalist with 20 plus years of experience in Healthcare and Tourism. She has experience with Policies and Procedure development HRIS, Hiring and Retention and WSIB claims management.
Alison has a Diploma in Business, Accounting & Computer Applications from Toronto School of Business and a Certificate in Human Resources Management from Fleming College.
Alison previously served on the Peterborough board in various roles including the Chair Elect, Treasurer, Mentorship, Regulatory and Programs Chair.
Ryan Cooke, CHRL
Council Past Chair - York
Customer-centric and seasoned HR professional with 17+ years of diverse experience across various business sectors. Renowned for partnering with business leaders to drive organizational effectiveness in union and non-union environments. Skilled in designing, implementing, and managing HR policies, programs, and processes, with a strong foundation in Canadian employment legislation. A strategic thinker with well-honed decision-making abilities and an open, consultative style. Passionate about elevating people and culture initiatives, transforming them from good to GREAT.

Hazel Langlois, CHRL
Council Past Chair - Durham
Hazel Langlois is an HR Business Partner for a global climate solutions company. She has been with this company for the past 12 years. In her current role, she supports 17 locations across Canada including both a union and non-union workforce. Hazel graduated with a Bachelors of Commerce in 2013 and has held various roles in the HR function from 2012 to present. Before accepting the HR Business Partner role for Canada, she was in a Learning and Development role which she loved. Hazel has been a member of the HRPA since 2014 and a volunteer at the Durham Chapter since 2017. She has held both the PD Chair and Chair elect roles with the Durham chapter, and she is excited to continue that work with the new Central East Chapter Council. When she is not working or volunteering, Hazel spends time with her husband and 3-year-old daughter.
Tammy Sergie, CHRP, CHRL, SHRM-CP
Council Volunteer
Tammy Sergie is the Head of Human Resources at EHN Canada. Prior to EHN, Tammy was a Senior Human Resources Business Partner at Staples Inc. for over a decade, where she supported various parts of the business and its subsidiaries like HiTouch and Quill in both US and Canada. In her time with Staples, Tammy supported a number of high-profile acquisitions and led numerous critical integration projects. Over the course of her career, Tammy has worked in various HR leadership roles with known industry leaders like TELUS, Grand & Toy, OfficeMax, OpenText. Tammy is a graduate of University of Toronto with honors and is currently working on a specialization program with Harvard Business School. She holds an active certification by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing in Adult Mental Health First Aid USA and has recently completed a Labour Law program at York University – Osgoode Hall Law School.
Ejaz Malik, MCom., MBA, CHRP, CHRL, CPHR, Chartered MCIPD, SHRM-SCP

Ejaz Malik is a dynamic Chartered Human Resources Leader with over two decades of experience in translating business visions into strategic HR initiatives. A determined individual with a growth mindset recognized for his expertise in optimizing HR operations, Ejaz excels in aligning HR strategies with corporate goals, enhancing performance, and driving growth. He holds an MBA in HR and MCom in Accounting & Finance, and prestigious HR designations including CHRP, CHRL, CPHR, SHRM-SCP, and Chartered MCIPD. Ejaz has a proven track record in HR Consulting & Ejaz is also a highly sought HR Consultant in GTA. As a committed volunteer, he served as Board Director of HRPA York Region and the sub-Board Committee. He is also an award-winning mentor mentoring HR professionals and supports various community initiatives. Ejaz is dedicated to leveraging his skills to elevate the HR profession and support the HRPA Council’s mission.

An Organizational Development and HR Management Strategist, leveraging data-driven insights to enhance internal communications and align employee experiences with the organization’s vision, mission, values, and goals.

I am a passionate and dedicated HR Professional who strives to cultivating positive workplace cultures that drive employee success and organizational growth. I am currently a Human Resources Generalist at PROLINK, a leading insurance brokerage firm that offers customized solutions for personal and business needs.
I believe that the heart of any thriving organization lies in its people. By championing a people-first approach, I aim to create environments where employees feel valued, empowered, and inspired to achieve their best.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, as well as with my dog, cats, and family.
Priyanka Singh

With over 6.5 years of experience in Human Resources Management, I am currently based in Oshawa, Ontario. I hold a Master’s degree in HR and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from India, and I’m actively pursuing my CHRP designation.
Throughout my career, I’ve held key HR roles in organizations such as the National Stock Exchange of India, where I’ve honed my expertise in Organizational Development, Performance Management, and HR Digitization. I am proficient in various HR technologies, including Darwinbox and Workday.
Recognized with awards like Employee of the Month and Ninja of the Month, I am passionate about continuous improvement and strategic HR management. My goal is to contribute meaningfully to business success through my HR initiatives.
Sonja Ugrica
Council Volunteer
A recent graduate of the Human Resources Management Program at Fanshawe College with honours and obtaining a level 4 certification in American Sign Language. I have registered to complete a payroll administration course with Fanshawe this semester and am in the process of obtaining my CHRP designation.
I am currently working with BMO and am learning as much as I can to be able to advance my career and obtain a position within my field of studies.
I am excited to be a part of the chapter and to share my ideas and learn as much as possible.
