Volunteering

Volunteering at HRPA is a rewarding membership experience and volunteers are critical to the association’s continued success.

With the expertise and involvement of members, we create awareness of workplace issues, promote excellence in human resources management practices and provide services that support the HR community, knowledge-sharing and continuous professional development.

HRPA members and students are involved in a variety of volunteer service opportunities including:

About Leadership

Lesley Harrington, CHRL

Chapter Chair

Lesley is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) with over 9 years of progressive Human Resources experience and she is currently working at the Barrie and Community Family Health Team as the HR Manager.  Lesley obtained her Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management through Sheridan College in Oakville.

Lesley’s HR experience includes; Recruitment & Selection, Pensions and Benefits, Employee Relations, Onboarding and Orientation, Performance Management, Compensation, Policy Development, HRIS and Health & Safety.

Prior to her HR career, Lesley has extensive management experience in Administration, Customer Service and Operations and has worked in the medical, legal, telecommunications, real estate and private business sectors.

Lesley looks forward to actively participating as a Member of the Barrie Chapter Board.

Amy-Frost-Tribe
Amy Frost-Tribe, CHRP

Chapter Secretary/Treasurer

Amy Frost-Tribe is a Certified Human Resource Professional who earned her Bachelor of Arts from Laurentian University and her post-graduate certificate in Human Resources from Ryerson University.

Amy brings many years of experience in governance to the HRPA Barrie and District Chapter as she was a member of the Board of Directors of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and served on their Quality Assurance and Discipline committees. She is also a member of the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraising committee for the Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie.

Amy is currently a member of the Human Resources team at the City of Barrie and has also worked in the non-profit field. Amy’s interests in Human Resources include policy work, HR metrics, and employee wellness programs.

Amy is excited to be a member of the Board of Directors for the HRPA Barrie and District Chapter and contributing to local excellence.

Rhonda
R​honda Lavigne, CHRL

Chair, Chapter Mentorship Committee

Rhonda is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) with 10 years of progressive Human Resource Management experiences; and 8 years Marketing and Systems experiences. Having worked in both union and non-unionized environments including automotive, manufacturing, industrial distribution and construction, education, and municipal government offices, Rhonda is able to bring to the table broad based HR experiences in the areas of development and implementation of policies and programs, compensation, performance management, health and safety and training and development. Rhonda is recognized as a strategic planner who understands the larger business issues and focuses on helping the organization succeed through the proactive integration of people and processes. Prior to 2000, Rhonda has 8 years successful business experiences and held Marketing positions in the industrial electrical construction market.​

Sue
Sue Skawinski, CHRL

Chair, Chapter Student Liaison Committee

Sue is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) with over 20 years of progressive Human Resources experience. Sue completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management through Humber College in Toronto.

Sue’s passion is recruiting, however, does possess many years of generalist HR experience including, but not limited to, Talent Acquisition, International HRM, Employee Relations, Compensation & Benefits, HRIS & Payroll and Health & Safety. Sue is currently working as an HR Generalist with RNS Health Services in Newmarket. Sue has held various roles within HR such as Director, Resourcing, Manager, Recruiting, and Human Resources Manager. For many years she worked and built the company & the HR department at Thales, a large, global hi-tech company.

Sue enjoys volunteering and has enjoyed many different volunteer experiences prior to being a member of the Board of Directors of the Barrie & District HRPA. Sue is an avid cyclist and has participated in the 200 Km Ride to Conquer Cancer, is a Gold Canvasser with the Heart & Stroke Foundation and a voracious reader.

Sue is excited to participate on the Board and to be in a position to give back to the community nd make a contribution to the Barrie & District HRPA.

Sherry-Patterson
Sherry Patterson, B.A., CHRP

Chair, Chapter Programs/Professional Development Committee

Sherry earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Laurentian University and obtained her post-graduate certificate in Human Resources Management from Georgian College.  She has a Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification and is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).

Sherry is currently a Human Resources Supervisor at Concord Steel Centre Ltd. in Woodbridge.  She is a dedicated Human Resources Professional who is proactive, innovative and assertive with the ability to execute business objectives and goals.  Known for excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.

Sherry has always had a passion for volunteering.  She has previously volunteered for Victim Services and as a Team Leader and at the Season Centre for Grieving Children in Barrie.

Sherry is excited to contribute to her local HRPA chapter as the Professional Development/Programming Chair.
