Volunteering

Volunteering at HRPA is a rewarding membership experience and volunteers are critical to the association’s continued success.

With the expertise and involvement of members, we create awareness of workplace issues, promote excellence in human resources management practices and provide services that support the HR community, knowledge-sharing and continuous professional development.

About Leadership

Hussain Haider Ali
Hussain Haider Ali, CHRL

Chapter Chair

Hussain is a seasoned HR professional with over 20 years of experience in regulatory and public service sectors. Currently working as a member of the Senior Management Team at the City of Toronto with the division that is the service system manager for social housing and homelessness services, he leads the Organizational Development function. He provides oversight on key issues for the division, which is comprised of over 1500 employees and has an annual operating budget of over $1B.

He is passionate about the field of Human Resources and has contributed to the HRPA for several years through his roles on the Board of Directors for the Toronto Chapter, including Professional Development, Sponsorship and Mentorship. In May 2022, he assumed the role of Chair of the Board of Directors for the Toronto Chapter of the HRPA. He looks forward to leading the largest chapter in the association through a time of significant change.

Maria Ash, CHRE
Maria Ash, CHRE

Secretary/Treasurer

Maria is a Human Resources Executive with a track record of driving organizational transformation in the private and not-for-profit sectors. Highly knowledgeable and experienced in all facets of human resources, employee experience and labour relations. During her nine year tenure at CNIB, she spearheaded several successful initiatives, including the launch of CNIB University and championed the organization’s objective of increasing the number of employees who are blind or partially sighted from 4% to 30%. In 2018, she was the executive lead responsible for separating CNIB into three legal corporations. In 2020, Maria formed and actively led the Pandemic Response Taskforce. Her depth of operational experience extends beyond human resources and labor relations to board governance, information technology, business continuity, strategic planning, and corporate communications. She has actively been involved in the oversight of crisis management, emergency planning, business continuity and served as Chief Privacy Officer and Risk Officer.

Chair, Chapter Mentorship

Moneca is an experienced Human Resource professional with over 20 plus years in the public and community service sectors. She currently works for a non-profit refugee agency as a key member of their Senior Management team. In her role of Director of People Services, she provides both leadership and oversight on strategic Human Resource and operational initiatives.

Since 2016, Moneca has contributed to the HRPA through many roles on the Toronto Chapter, Board of Directors. During that time, she has managed the Secretary-Treasurer portfolio; assumed additional duties as Board liaison to the Mentorship Committee in 2017; was a member of HRPA Chapter 2019 Budget Review Task Force and participated as a panel judge for the 2021 HRPA Student Case competition. She now looks forward to working with the Toronto Chapter Mentorship Committee through a time of renewal and change.

Priscilla Stephen

Chair, Chapter Programs

Priscilla is a highly accomplished, resourceful, HR professional with a 20-year portfolio of success, driving Human Resource Strategy, functions, initiatives, and programs for leading healthcare, technology, and business process providers. She is passionate about positive people experiences and sustaining a culture of strong leadership and empowerment. In her current role as the leader for Human Resources at MyHealth Centre, she is responsible for providing strategic guidance and leadership for all aspects of the HR function and establishing a vision and direction for the full complement of human capital programs, policies and services. Prior to that, she has served in a leadership capacity overseeing HR functions and has been instrumental in designing new HR programs, establishing best practices, streamlining processes, driving Compliance , and reducing HR costs in various IT & ITES organizations.

Andria Matadial, B.A. CHRL

Chair, Chapter Student Liaison

Andria is an experienced senior human resources professional specializing in Talent Acquisition, with an extensive background in organizational development, training, recruitment, business development, Diversity & Inclusion and Campus outreach programs.

She has worked in a variety of industries at both the corporate level and as an independent consultant, including financial services, health care, pharmaceutical, media, marketing, sales, engineering procurement and construction services. Her career has progressed with both global leaders and local organizations such as universities, colleges, non-profits, start-ups and specialty groups.

Andria’s passion for ‘giving back’ spans many years as a volunteer with the HRPA, where she has enjoyed working with and for the membership, from students to executives.

Andria’s past experience includes 6 years as a board member with the HRPA Toronto Chapter as Director of Membership (2014-2017) and Regulatory Affairs Liaison (2017-2020) as well as 3 years as Chair of the Toronto Events Committee (2011 – 2014), overseeing Professional Development and Social events with a team of 30+ volunteers. She is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from York University and a Human Resources Management Certificate from Humber College.

It would be a privilege for her to continue the volunteer journey as an advocate and voice for the members of the HRPA Toronto Chapter.

Jeremy Schreder CHRL
Jeremy Schreder, CHRL

Chair, Chapter Communications

Jeremy’s HR career spans over 15 years in a variety of professional, consulting and financial services organizations.   He has demonstrated success in creating and transforming strategies and processes that drive operational efficiencies, and has a unique ability to understand complex HR organizational interdependencies.  Jeremy is a solutions-oriented HR leader and brings robust knowledge in areas including organizational development, employee and labour relations, diversity, equity and inclusion, global mobility, total rewards and labour relations, and has supported organizational operations in both in Canada and internationally.

Jeremy has worked with HRPA’s Toronto Chapter in a variety of capacities including CHRP and CHRL knowledge exam proctoring, HRPA’s Student Case Competition and was a member of the Mentorship Committee for 3 years, including holding the position of Committee Chair.  He attended Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, holds a post graduate diploma in Human Resources Management from Conestoga College and completed his CHRL designation in 2012.

He is passionate about HR and understands the critical role our profession plays in supporting organizational strategies, as well as HRPA’s increasingly important mandate of guiding our profession.  Jeremy is excited to volunteer for the Toronto Chapter again and will bring a focus on providing leadership, governance and creativity in support of the Chapter’s success for its members.
