Volunteering

Volunteering at HRPA is a rewarding membership experience and volunteers are critical to the association’s continued success.

With the expertise and involvement of members, we create awareness of workplace issues, promote excellence in human resources management practices and provide services that support the HR community, knowledge-sharing and continuous professional development.

HRPA members and students are involved in a variety of volunteer service opportunities including:

Julie Yandt
Julie Yandt, CHRL

Chapter Chair

Julie Yandt is the Director, HR Business Partner and Program Management with The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group and holds the Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation.

Serving on the Board for the Peterborough Chapter from 2016-2018 in the Program role, Julie returned again in 2020. Since then, she has held the roles of Treasurer/Secretary, Student Liaison, and Chair Elect. Now holding the role of Chapter Chair since 2022. Previous volunteer Board experience includes not-for-profit organizations in the City of Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.

Julie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources and Labour Relations, a Certified Talent Management Professional (CTMP) designation, and is certified in Prosci Change Management as a Train-The-Trainer to support her 15+ years of leadership in the field of human resources in various industries covering retail, manufacturing and insurance.

Chapter Chair Elect & Chair, Chapter Mentorship

Alison is the Senior Human Resources Manager with Great Blue Resorts managing their 8 resorts as well as Head Office for all HR Functions.

Alison has been a dedicated Human Resources professional with over 20+ years of experience. Her Human Resources experience includes working in Non-Unionized environments within the HealthCare and Hospitality sectors. She has built her expertise within Recruiting, Labour Relations, Performance Management, HR Software Implementation’s, Change Management, Payroll and Health & Safety to name a few.
Alison has a Diploma in Business, Accounting & Computer Applications from Toronto School of Business and a Certificate in Human Resources Management from Fleming College.

Alison has been on the board since 2015 in various roles as the Treasurer, Programs Chair, Treasurer/Secretary and Regulatory Discussion Group Representative and looks forward to working with the team.

Sara is a Customer Success Leader, Human Resources Leader, and a strategic business partner working with clients to address today’s business challenges, accelerated growth, and rapid changes.

Interacting with clients is a passion for Sara. She believes that by listening and truly understanding your client’s needs (current and future) you are building a foundation to successful and long-term relationships. She wants her clients to have enriching and meaningful experiences throughout their lifecycle while solving their business needs. Sara dedicates herself to ensuring her clients achieve their business objectives and are given the tools to achieve greatness.

Chair, Chapter Programs

Amanda Payne is the Employee Relations and HR Program Management Lead with The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group.

She holds a Diploma in Business Administration – Human Resources Management and is presently completing her Degree through Athabasca University. Previous experience includes 8 years’ in Employment Services supporting employers and job seekers through recruitment, training and development. Amanda served as the Co-Executive Director with the Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment in 2018 and was a member of the Municipality of Trent Lakes Economic Development Committee between 2017 and 2018.

Amanda is excited to connect with the local community of HR Practitioners through the Peterborough Chapter board.

Teri Lawrence, B.Sc., CHRL, PCP

Chair, Chapter Communications

A dedicated professional with 12 years Human Resources experience and 7 years Payroll experience. Areas of focus include payroll & data with experience in recruitment, benefits, disability management, pensions, compensation, learning & development, and health & safety.

Education includes a Bachelor of Science, Human Resources Management Certificate and the CHRL and PCP designations.

Previously contributed to the HRPA as a volunteer on the Programs Committee and later accepted the Secretary/Treasurer role before becoming the Communications Chair for the Peterborough Chapter board.

An HR professional for over 10 years my greatest satisfaction comes from helping individuals discover new skills in careers that set them sailing with enthusiasm. To ensure a physical and psychological safe workplace that people can bring their authentic selves. It is also learning from others that inspire me to do new things in new ways. Leaders listen and speak last.
