Welcome to the West Toronto Chapter of the HRPA
Founded in 1951, the Human Resources Professionals of West Toronto (HRPWT) is a non-profit organization of human resources professionals and students which consists of over 600 members. We are affiliated with the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) and directed by a dedicated group of volunteer Human Resources Professionals. Our members provide a wide range of leading HR services to their clients in Toronto, Mississauga and Etobicoke. Our West Toronto chapter events, programs and activities--such as our new social media networking initiatives--are designed to enable our members to advance their HR practice and HR network.
WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
As the HRPA West Toronto Chapter President, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our dedicated and talented HR community.
As you'll quickly see from viewing this website, we're an industrious group focused on doing everything we can to add value to our 600+ members.
We plan our events a full year in advance to enable members to plan to attend them to get the most from their memberships. We've established a relationship with the Weston Golf Club to enable these events to take place in an amazing location at the lowest cost possible. Our events feature expert HR leaders and offer our members an opportunity to build their HR network.
We offer a unique and innovative sponsorship program called Best in the West, to build stronger community connections and give members an easy opportunity to contribute to a special education fund (that has already raised $3000 for a future event).
We're also keen on helping our members, whether they are students or seasoned professionals, find work as evidenced in our November and upcoming job search sessions.
We're also proud to plan student events - which are always well attended - and run excellent scholarship programs at York and Humber to recognize and encourage emerging HR talent
As the Chapter's President, I'm incredibly proud of the work we've been able to accomplish over the years to build a stronger and supportive West Toronto HR community. However, I also believe that the best is yet to come with increased member participation and engagement.
This year, I hope you can help us build a stronger chapter by joining us at a special event, or perhaps by connecting in some other way that works best for you. There's a vast number of ways you can contribute to our collective success. Supporting the Best in the West program, joining us on LinkedIn and Twitter, offering an internship to one of our members seeking work, running for a Board position, or volunteering to mentor a member are just a few of the other ways you can make a difference. Other ideas are always welcome!
Here's hoping our 2013 and 2014 events, programs and activities give you a chance to get more from your chapter and contribute to the advancement of our community.

ADDITIONALWAYS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SUCCESS OF YOUR CHAPTER
A key goal of our chapter is to maximize member engagement so that we can also maximize the value our members gain from their membership costs. There are several ways you can contribute to your chapter's success and make the difference. Examples are provided below:
1. Support our Best in the West program This is a simple way for you to contribute to the chapter's goal to raise funds to offer members access to leading HRM education for no cost. Last year we raised over $3000 for future events through this program. Here's how it works: Members contact one of their HR Service Providers and ask them to sponsor the Chapter. The Service Providers pay $250 and this contribution goes into a special education fund for a future event. Once we raise $10,000 through this program, we will bring all of the sponsors together with members for a special, free, chapter event. Sponsors receive multiple benefits from supporting this program. Sponsor benefits include having their logo and service offering (s) listed on our website and shared with our membership at multiple events and through e-blasts throughout the year. E-mail your sponsorship contact information to email@example.com. Special thanks to the following HR Service Providers (links below) who have already sponsored our program. Be sure to visit their websites and contact them to let them know how much you appreciate their support!

2. Become a Mentor We have exciting news about our Mentorship Program. We are now accepting applications for Mentors for the 2013-2014 year. The Mentorship Program was a great success last year and we hope to have another great year. The HRPWT Mentorship Program is a fun way to engage in and give back to your HR community as a Mentor. Participating in the Mentorship Program is a great learning opportunity for a Mentor. For all those interested in participating in the Mentorship Program, the application deadline is October 24, 2013, with the program starting in November 2013. If you wish to participate as a Mentor, please go to www.mentorscout.com to fill out an online application by October 24, 2013. The Organization ID is: "HRPWT Mentoring" Information on the program can be found at www.hrpwt.com. All mentors who complete the Mentorship Program will be entered into a draw to win free Chapter Dues for next year
3. Volunteer Volunteers are always needed. Attend any event and ask how you can volunteer your talents and services by speaking with our membership Director about how you can help. One excellent way you can volunteer is to become a Board Member. Board Member responsibilities and accountabilities are highlighted in the HRPA Board Nomination Package. Board Members are elected. At the local chapter level, Board members are hands-on members - this means that beyond meeting on a monthly basis the team does a great deal of administrative work such as updating websites, writing communications, visiting schools to promote the profession and the association and many other tasks based on the the job descriptions provided by HRPA for each role. A key goal in the current fiscal year is to ask more members to volunteer to become Board members. Contact us if you are interested in this opportunity (firstname.lastname@example.org).. Also, be sure to look for more information on the positions that will be available for election later this year when the nomination e-mails are distributed in the future inline with HRPA policies. This is a great way to support your local chapter.
