- James Pierlot has extensive experience advising sponsors and administrators of some of the largest pension plans in Canada on matters relating to pension governance, and compliance with federal tax rules, pension-standards legislation and investment regulations.
- Recognized as an innovative thought leader, James is a member of the C.D. Howe Institute Pension Policy Council, the Legal Advisory Committee of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Executive Committee of the Pension & Benefits Section of the Canadian Bar Association, and is a past-Chair of the Pension & Benefits Section of the Ontario Bar Association. Frequently quoted in the media, James has authored legislation presented to the House of Commons, provided expert testimony to federal and provincial legislative committees and made numerous submissions to governments on retirement-saving policy.
Jon Marin, Associate, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt, LLP
- Jon Marin practices exclusively in the pensions and employee benefits law area, providing advice on legal and regulatory issues affecting all aspects of provincially and federally regulated pension plans and other employee benefit plans.
- Jon deals with issues such as plan design, governance and administration, pension de-risking, plan wind ups, plan compliance, as well as pension and benefit issues arising in corporate transactions generally, including acquisitions, divestitures, mergers and corporate reorganizations.
- Jon has assisted on several conversions of registered pension plans from defined benefit to shared risk plans (a form of target benefit plan) in both the public and private sectors in the province in New Brunswick. David Stamp, Partner, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt, LLP
- David Stamp is an expert litigator specializing in pension and benefits litigation and employment litigation, as well as general commercial litigation. He represents major pension funds and corporations in various pensions litigation matters, and has acted for the successful party in a number of well-known pension and benefits cases at various levels of court including the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Appeal. His practice also includes a substantial administrative law component, both advising and appearing before statutory tribunals.
