Welcome

The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) is committed to providing fair, transparent and accessible registration and certification processes for internationally educated human resources professionals (HR IEPs).

For this reason, we have undertaken a study to reveal the barriers to labour market entry for HR IEPs, and enhance the capacity of HRPA to integrate HR IEPs into the Ontario labour market.

For the results of the study, please watch the Webinar (New Window),
and read our Publication (PDF).

Certification

Completion of HRPA’s certification process confers the right to use the title Certified Human Resources Professional and the right to use the initials C.H.R.P. or CHRP after one’s name.

The overarching objective of HRPA’s certification process is to ensure that those HR professionals who are certified by HRPA possess the knowledge and skills in sufficient degree to competently perform important occupational activities and to protect the public interest.

Certification is a "warrant of competence" or "warrant of expertise"

In compliance with the Fair Access to Regulated Professions Act (2006), HRPA has developed and the ‘Alternative Routes’ program allowing HR IEPs to expedite the verification process of their international experience and education. The Alternative Routes program is intended to provide flexibility for experienced HR professionals using a points-based system that recognizes professional level experience, formal training, coursework and other HR designations. The program requires the candidate to obtain fifty points to qualify to write the first examination towards the CHRP designation. Gaining the CHRP designation can help prepare internationally educated HR professionals for the realities of the Ontario labour market.
