The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, also known as the AODA became law on June 13, 2005. The purpose of the AODA is to develop, implement and enforce mandatory accessibility standards in key areas of daily living. Standards are being developed in Customer Service; Information and Communications; Employment; Transportation; and Built Environment. The accessibility standards will apply to private and public sector organizations across Ontario. The goal of the AODA is an accessible Ontario by 2025.
HRPA aims to advance HRPA members’ capabilities and add value to the HR community in general through delivery of education and information about AODA and its Standards. The result will be to support cross-sector compliance with the AODA and accessibility standards among Human Resources practitioners.
Eventually the AODA webinar series will provide a comprehensive overview of the AODA and all its Standards, and they will be offered as the Standards are published. The series is an EnAbling Change Partnership project with the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario and begins with these webinars. They are free to all Ontarians.
