Career Bridging/Reduced Dues

If you require help with your membership dues, you may qualify for HRPA's Reduced Dues.

There are special reduced dues provisions for members who are retired, unemployed, on disability or Maternity leave.

Do I qualify for Reduced Dues?

Members may apply for reduced dues status if they are a current HRPA member and unemployed, or on maternity, educational or disability leave. The member may also apply if they are on contract/temporary employment as long as the work does not exceed six months total within the membership year and their annual income does not exceed $18,000. Also, to be eligible for the program, you must be an HRPA member for at least one full membership calendar year (12 months). Members who qualify will be eligible for reduced dues for a maximum of two consecutive years within a five year time period.

If the member wishes to apply/renew under the reduced dues status, they must provide HRPA with: the career bridging/reduced dues application form, proof of status and payment.

Proof of Status

Proof of status accepted by HRPA includes an employment insurance (EI) claim, Record of Employment (ROE) or a letter from your employer if you are on educational leave or part-time employment. Your Social Insurance Number may be blacked out.

Return to Work

Reduced dues status expires when you return to full-time employment. You must notify Membership Services within 30 days of your return. You will be invoiced at the lesser of a) a full-year membership fee less the reduced dues fee, or b) membership at the regular rate, but on a pro-rated basis from the month of your return to full-time work.

Application for reduced dues for second consecutive year

Members applying for reduced dues status for a second consecutive year will be required to submit a copy of their T4 or T4A for the most recent tax year along with their application. The career bridging/reduced dues annual fee is $113.00 plus any reduced dues chapter fees and applicable taxes for Practitioner and General Members.  CHRP career bridging/reduced dues annual fee is $129.50 plus any reduced dues chapter fees and applicable taxes.  Schedule of the reduced Chapter dues and links to application and renewal form for retired status follow.

Member Disability Assistance Program (MDAP)

In addition to HRPA's reduced fees programs for members off work on parental leave or in career transition, HRPA offers those members who have suffered a disabling injury or health condition additional support during their recovery and rehabilitation.

MDAP provides full subsidization of annual membership fees for up to three (3) years for members meeting the following eligibility requirements:

  • Has been a member in good standing for a minimum of one (1) full year and has paid at least one membership renewal before prior to the onset of their disability;
  • Is considered disabled and unable to actively work in the HR profession, as substantiated by medical documents provided to HRPA;
  • Submission of medical documentation substantiating continued disability at membership renewal in order to continue to be eligible for MDAP, up to the program maximum of three (3) membership years.

If after three (3) years of participation in MDAP a member continues to be disabled, as substantiated by medical documentation provided to HRPA, they will become eligible for HRPA's reduced fee program until such time as they are considered medically fit to return to work.

Whether on MDAP or reduced fee program, once the member returns to work and is no longer considered fully disabled by their employer, the member will return to full membership fees at the next renewal.
