Human Resources Research Institute

HRRI advances the mission of HRPA and the profession as an HR thought leader by funding awards, scholarships and empirical research projects which have clear application to HR practice.

Mandate

The Human Resources Research Institute (HRRI) funds advanced studies in HR through scholarships. It funds evidence-based research with practical application for HR professionals and it awards prizes for the best Ph.D. dissertation and Masters thesis in HR in Canada.

Over time, HRRI may also publish books, reports, papers based on research findings; and it may develop and market tools, such as presentations, videos, and study guides, to get its research-based knowledge into the hands of the practitioners who need it.

Governance and Operations

Though HRRI operates independently of HRPA, HRPA Board members hold positions on HRRI's Board. To control start-up costs, HRPA staff help fill operational roles. Leaders in the HR and academic community have been and will continue to be recruited to fill volunteer positions on the Board and its Standing Committees and Sub-committees that will do much of the work of HRRI.

Funding

HRPA has provided HRRI with a grant to cover start-up costs, but over time it is expected the HR community will provide the bulk of financial support to HRRI. Corporate sponsorship opportunities will present themselves, but HRRI will not depend upon them. While HRPA members may help support the Institute, HRRI also conducts its own fundraising acitivities.
