CHRP Designation

The objective of HRPA’s certification process is to ensure that certified HR professionals have the sufficient knowledge and skills to be competent in their roles and to protect the public interest. 

To earn the CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) designation, and to become certified by HRPA, follow these five (5) steps: 

  1. Become  a member,
  2. Complete all required coursework ,
  3. Write the National Knowledge Exam (NKE),
  4. Effective January 1, 2011, CHRP applicants must have a university degree to be granted the CHRP designation,
  5. Obtain a minimum of three years of HR work experience at a professional level.

The coursework requirement consists of successful completion of the following nine (9) courses:

  • Human Resources Management (HRM)
  • Organizational Behaviour
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Human Resources Planning
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Training and Development
  • Labour Relations
  • Recruitment and Selection
  • Compensation

Successful completion means obtaining a grade of 70% or better over all nine (9) courses with no single course below 65%.
