HRPAN Walk for Hope

Thanks to the 13 HRPAN members who participated in this year’s Relay for Life, on June 24-25, 2011 at Brock University. We joined 119 other teams, and over 1,100 participants for 12 hours of community camaraderie in fighting cancer.

Relay For Life is the biggest cancer fundraising event, where communities from coast to coast join together for one common goal – to fight back against cancer. Funds raised at Relay For Life support the Canadian Cancer Society’s mission by helping us save, improve and enrich the lives of Canadians.

The downpour of rain that kicked off the evening didn’t dampen any of our spirits. HRPAN members enjoyed getting to know one another better, while taking in a few (- in some cases, quite a few -) laps around the event area. It was particularly moving to honour the 111 survivors as they made their way around the track, as well as listening to the silence as almost 1,300 luminaries were lit in honour of friends and family who are fighting cancer, lost the battle, and most hopefully, those who have beaten cancer.

Special thanks to Lisa Kuiper (our new Finance Director) who arranged for the donated use of our large tent, and who organized the decor of our area.

Next year we’ll look forward to some additional members joining us, and pledging to raise even more money for a great cause. Mark your calendars for June 22-23, 2012 and join use for the next Relay for Life.
